WHY YOUR DIESEL GENERATOR NEEDS WATER SEPARATOR?
Water is Diesel fuel’s worst enemy. Presence of water in Diesel results in rusting of the metallic parts of the Fuel System of the engine . The air in the Fuel Tank contains moisture. When the temperature falls during the night, this moisture becomes droplets and gets absorbed with the diesel. Therefore, it is advised to always keep the fuel tank topped up, so that minimum air is present inside the Fuel Tank.
Water Separator is installed in Fuel Line to separate the water from diesel. Here are some of the problems of having water in diesel.
Rust formation
Water combined with Iron surfaces will form layers of rust. Rust particles enter into the fuel and act as abrasive particles and damages fuel system equipment.
Corrosion
Water present in the diesel combined with the acid in the Diesel can corrode metallic parts. This is even more damaging than the abrasion caused by rust particles.
Pitting
Pitting is a kind of corrosion that creates small holes in the metal body. Flashing of water present in the diesel causes pitting in the metallic surface.
Microbial growth
Microbes grow in the water present in diesel. They create sludge in the diesel and corrodes the Fuel Tank and fuel injection system.
To prevent these problems, the easy solution is to install a Water Separator in the Fuel System. It prevents water from entering the Fuel Injection system. Since water is heavier than diesel, it gets accumulated at the bottom of the Water Separator. The accumulated water is to be drained periodically. Some Water Separators are equipped with a WIF (Water in Fuel) sensor. This sensor generates an alarm when enough water is accumulated.
